1.  It was September 11th and Yuehan and John Jr wanted to know why the day was so significant.
2.  John Jr went to his computer and learned about the year 2001.
3. September 11, 2001 was the deadliest terrorist attack in history, killing around 3,000 people. The attacks occurred when al-Qaeda hijacked four planes and flew two into the World Trade Center in New York City, one into the Pentagon, and the fourth into a field in Pennsylvania. 
 4. In response to the attacks, the United States waged the multi-decade global war on terror to eliminate hostile groups deemed terrorist organizations, as well as the foreign governments purported to support them, in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and several other countries.
5. Ringleader Mohamed Atta flew American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan at 8:46 a.m.[h] Seventeen minutes later, at 9:03,[i] the World Trade Center's South Tower was hit by United Airlines Flight 175. Both 110-story skyscrapers collapsed within an hour and forty-one minutes,[j] bringing about the destruction of the remaining five structures in the WTC complex and damaging or destroying nearby buildings. American Airlines Flight 77 flew towards Washington, D.C. and crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m., causing a partial collapse. The fourth and final flight, United Airlines Flight 93, also changed course towards Washington, believed by investigators to target either the United States Capitol or the White House. Alerted to the previous attacks, the passengers revolted against the hijackers who then crashed the aircraft into a Stonycreek Township field, near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, at 10:03 am.

It was a bright September morning. John Jr and Yuēhàn were playing in the garden. They noticed the adults talking about a special day. 'Why is today important?' John Jr asked Yuēhàn. They decided to find out together.

A Curious Morning

John Jr went inside to use the computer. Yuēhàn sat beside him, eager to learn. They typed 'September 11, 2001' into the search bar. Soon, they found many stories and pictures. It was a day people remembered for a big reason.

The Quest for Answers

John Jr read about the year 2001. He learned that many people were hurt on that day. Yuēhàn listened quietly, feeling sad. They discovered it was a day when something bad happened in America. John Jr wanted to know more.  Mohamed Atta flew American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower.

A Day of Sadness

John Jr found pictures of two tall buildings. They were called the World Trade Center. Yuēhàn learned that they were very important. But something terrible happened to them. John Jr and Yuēhàn felt a little scared.

Both Towers were struck by hijacked planes and collapsed  quickly.  Yuēhàn learned about brave people who helped others. They were called firefighters and police officers. John Jr admired their courage. They went into the buildings to save lives. Yuēhàn felt proud of their bravery.

John Jr read about how the world changed after that day. Yuēhàn learned about the global war on terror. Many countries came together to stop bad things. It was a big challenge for everyone. John Jr and Yuēhàn understood the importance of peace.
