NAS Oceana is a military airport in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
It is also known as Apollo Soucek Field, 
The base was commissioned on August 17, 1943, and is now a complex with more than seven miles of runways and the latest equipment to serve military air traffic.
NAS Oceana is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Its mission is to support the Navy's mission by:
Aligning shore installation support to the Fleet, Fighter, and Family
Supporting Atlantic Fleet Strike/Fighter Assets
Supporting Joint/Interagency Operations & Training
Providing resources to train and conduct air, land, and sea operations
NAS Oceana is home to 20 aviation squadrons, including the F-14 Tomcat fighter planes and the F/A-18 strike fighters.
The base is tucked away among tall trees, swamps, and farmland just west of the waterfront.
The base hosts an annual free NAS Oceana Air Show that highlights military and civilian aviation to the public.

One sunny morning, John Jr., a curious little boy, woke up more excited than ever. Today was the day he was going to visit the Naval Air Station Oceana with his family. He had heard stories about the mighty planes and the brave pilots. John Jr. couldn't wait to see them up close.

The Big Adventure Begins

As they approached the gates, John Jr.'s eyes widened in amazement. The base was huge, with planes taking off and landing. He heard the loud roar of the engines and felt the excitement build up inside him. 'Look, Mommy, planes!' he exclaimed, pointing at the sky.

John Jr.'s first stop was the hangar housing the legendary F-14 Tomcat. He marveled at its sleek design and imagined it soaring through the skies. The guide told stories of its adventures, and John Jr. listened, wide-eyed and full of wonder.

The highlight of the day was meeting a real fighter pilot. Dressed in his flight suit, the pilot knelt down to John Jr.'s level and shared stories of flying high above the clouds. John Jr. was in awe, hanging on to every word and dreaming of flying his own plane someday.

Next, they visited the F/A-18 strike fighters. John Jr. learned these planes could land on aircraft carriers and support missions anywhere in the world. He watched videos of them in action and felt proud of the pilots and their missions.

John Jr. and his family took a guided tour around the base. They saw the tall trees, swamps, and farmland that surrounded it. John Jr. was fascinated by how the base was like a small city, with its own shops, schools, and even a fire station.

The visit's grand finale was the NAS Oceana Air Show. John Jr. watched in amazement as planes performed incredible stunts in the sky. The roar of the engines, the speed, and the precision of the pilots left him speechless. It was an experience he would never forget.
