Maverick is a biracial elementary school kid. His dad is black, his mom is white.  One day at school he was pushed off the slide, the kids said he was mixed and couldn’t play with them. One said he wasn’t white go away. The other said he couldn’t play because he wasn’t black. 
Maverick goes home in tears asking his dad was he black or white? Dad explains he’s a blended blessing of both races 

Blended Blessing

Maverick loved going to the playground after school. He would run, jump, and slide down the shiny slide. But one day, something terrible happened. Some kids pushed him off the slide and said mean things. They told him he couldn't play with them because he was mixed. Maverick didn't understand what they meant.

The Playground Incident

Maverick ran home with tears in his eyes. He found his dad and asked, "Dad, am I black or white?" His dad hugged him tight and wiped away his tears. He explained, "You are a blended blessing, my son. You are both black and white, and that makes you special and unique."

Confusion and Tears

Dad sat Maverick down and told him a story. He said, "Once upon a time, there was a beautiful garden. In that garden, there were flowers of all colors and sizes. Each flower was different and special in its own way. You, my son, are like a beautiful flower in that garden, a blend of two wonderful colors."

Maverick's dad continued, "Just like the flowers in the garden, you have the strength and beauty of both black and white. You can bring joy and happiness to everyone around you. Embrace your uniqueness, my son, and let it shine like the brightest flower in the garden."

Maverick wiped away his tears and thought about what his dad said. He realized that being a blend of two races was a wonderful thing. He had the best of both worlds and could learn from both cultures. He felt proud of who he was.

A New Perspective

The next day, Maverick went back to the schoolyard with a new perspective. He smiled at the kids who had been mean to him and said, "I'm a blended blessing, just like a beautiful flower in a garden. I can be friends with everyone." The kids looked surprised and then smiled back.

The Schoolyard Revisited

Soon, Maverick made friends with kids of all colors. They played together, laughed together, and learned from each other. Maverick's blended blessing became a symbol of friendship and acceptance in the schoolyard.
